U.S.-Canada border summit to feature trade, security, mobility experts

 

Nov. 16. 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Purdue Memorial Union. A conference, titled In Step, In Line, On Time: Regional Strategies for Trade, Security, and Mobility Challenges at the U.S.-Canada Border, will bring together researchers and private-sector stakeholders from across the Great Lakes region and U.S. and Canadian government officials. Indianapolis panel discussion, book signing for 'Problem Solving Courts'

 

Nov. 18. 3-5 p.m. Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, 30 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. JoAnn Miller, Purdue associate dean for the College of Liberal Arts and professor of sociology, and Donald C. Johnson, who was three times elected as a superior court judge in Indiana, will talk about their new book "Problem Solving Courts: New Approaches to Criminal Justice." There also will be a book signing. The event is sponsored by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority and the Corporation for Supportive Housing.

Purdue students visit Westminster Village as part of sociology class

 

Nov. 19. 7-9 p.m. Westminster Village, 2741 N. Salisbury St., West Lafayette. About 20 students from the "Social Gerontology" class will visit with residents at Westminster Village for game night. Course instructor and graduate student Karis Pressler organized the event to encourage students to interact with older adults and to provide a better understanding of the realities of aging.

College of Education to unveil space images

 

Nov. 20. 10:15 a.m. CST. Lincoln Elementary School, Roselawn, Ind. Purdue University's College of Education will unveil two mural-sized images of the Milky Way Galaxy from NASA's Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes and Chandra X-ray Observatory. Also, Magaretha Motes McBride, education alumna, former teacher and director of the Muncie Community Schools Planetarium, will give a presentation.
