JULY 7: 2009 PURDUE WEED DAY
     The 2009 Purdue Weed Day will begin at 9 a.m. at Purdue's Agronomy Center for Research and Education (ACRE), which is seven miles northwest of West Lafayette on U.S. 52. Throughout the day, participants will have the opportunity to look at the various corn, popcorn and soybean trials that were planted in late May. They also will have the chance to look at many of the industry weed control programs that are available for corn and soybeans and listen to presentations by Purdue weed experts. The afternoon sessions will take place at the Throckmorton-Purdue Agricultural Center. Also, a box lunch will be provided for those who preregistered and indicated they will be staying for lunch. JULY 14 & SEPT. 3: CROP TRAINING WORKSHOPS
    The workshops are hosted by Purdue's Department of Agronomy and will take place at the Purdue Agronomy Center for Research and Education near West Lafayette. The workshops provide production information and practical problem-solving skills and will be valuable for identifying insects, nematodes, herbicides, soils and small grains. The workshops also will focus on nutrients, pests and environmental stresses that have an impact on crop growth and development. Attendees will have the opportunity to earn continuing education units and continuing certification hours. Registration is $100 per person per workshop, except for the Forage Management Workshop, which is $80. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. EDT and is limited to 60 people per day. Workshops will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m. If a workshop is canceled, Purdue will mail notices to all participants and give a full refund.

JULY 14 & 17: AQUACULTURE WORKSHOPS
    The Indiana Soybean Alliance, in sponsorship with Purdue Extension, will be holding two free aquaculture workshops. The workshops will cover ways to make money through fish farming as the demand for fish increases. Participants also will learn about necessary permits and regulations, tips on putting together a business plan, and receive resource guides on local suppliers. The July 14 workshop will be at the Farmstead Inn & Conference Center in Shipshewana, and the July 17 workshop will be at the Birdseye Masonic Lodge in Birdseye. JULY 19-22: TOP FARMER CROP WORKSHOP
    The 42nd Top Farmer Crop Workshop will be on Purdue's West Lafayette campus and will feature more than 50 speakers and presenters. Workshop topics include spraying crops, being anything other than an average soybean farmer, promoting great business practices, new technologies in crop storage, wet fields, and more. The cost for the three-day workshop is $300 for a single representative from a business or farm and $100 for each additional member. JULY 21: MIDWEST REGIONAL TURF FIELD DAY
    This field day will begin at 8 a.m. at the W.H. Daniel Turf and Diagnostic Center located in West Lafayette. The day will begin with a trade show and equipment demonstration, followed by workshops and tours of the different types of turf research taking place at the center. Some of the topics that will be covered include the biology of white grub, newly developed yellow nutsedge controls, Poa management on greens, management of geese, fertilization of ornamentals and the economics of purchasing fertilizers. Workshop participants also will be able to learn more about the turf on the Purdue football field and what changes are occurring as Mackey Arena expands. The cost to attend this field day is $30 for members of the Midwest Regional Turf Foundation and $45 for non-members. Registration includes a pork chop lunch provided by Shoup's catering. AUGUST 15: WABASH HERB FEST
    The 12th annual event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Paradise Spring Historical Park at the corner of Allen and Canal Streets in Wabash, Ind. Throughout the day, attendees can participate in various seminars to learn more about herbs, shop at different vendors booths, visit the Wabash Historical Museum, and more.
