NOV. 23-24, 30-DEC. 1; DEC. 3-4: PURDUE INCOME TAX SCHOOLS
    These two-day programs for tax professionals provide training on current tax law and regulations and offer practical information for tax preparation of individual and small business returns. This year's Income Tax School will review recently enacted tax and tax-related legislation, focusing on provisions that are taking effect or ending. One hour of the program, usually at the end of the day, will be devoted to agricultural tax issues. Instructors include certified public accountants and retired Internal Revenue Service professionals. Income Tax School dates and locations include: Nov. 23-24, Stewart Center at Purdue University, West Lafayette; Nov. 30 to Dec. 1, United Methodist Church, 201 E. Third St., Seymour; Nov. 30 to Dec. 1, Wyndham Hotel, 2544 Executive Drive, Indianapolis; Dec. 3-4, Vanderburgh County 4-H Center, U.S. 41, Evansville; and Dec. 3-4, Hulman Memorial Student Union at Indiana State University, Terre Haute. DEC. 1: GROWING THE BIOECONOMY: SOLUTIONS FOR SUSTAINABILITY BIOFUELS CONFERENCE
    Agricultural economists Wally Tyner and Steven Wu will discuss biofuels and the future of renewable energy during this conference from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. EST. The conference's keynote speaker is James Lovelock, a renowned thinker on global environmental science. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and Secretary of Energy Steven Chu are invited speakers. Conference topics range from advances and breakthroughs in biofuels to biochar, which is the leftover material after cellulose is converted into fuel. Purdue Extension and Purdue's Energy Center at Discovery Park will host a conference-viewing site in Stewart Center on the university's West Lafayette campus. The conference also can be viewed online. Registration is $75 for those viewing the conference at Stewart Center and $50 for online viewing. DEC. 1-2: KENTUCKIANA CROP PRODUCTION SEMINAR
    Farmers and crop consultants can get a jump on the 2010 growing season by attending this seminar at the Evansville Airport Marriott. The seminar is divided into four workshops: corn and soybeans, ear development in corn and soil management, fertilization, and environmental concerns with agriculture. Speakers include specialists from Purdue, University of Kentucky, University of Illinois, Ohio State University, Indiana Natural Resource Conservation Service and the Environmental Protection Agency. Preregistration is not required but is requested. DEC. 4: MICHIANA CROPS CONFERENCE
    This conference, co-sponsored by Purdue and Michigan State universities, takes place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Blue Gate Restaurant and Bakery, 195 N. Van Buren St., Shipshewana. The conference is designed for farmers, certified crop advisers, commercial and private pesticide applicators, and agribusiness professionals who are interested in the latest information about seeding rates, corn and soybean diseases, and the value of manure. Preregistration is $35 per person and is due Nov. 30. Registration after Nov. 30 is $40 per person. Continuing education units for certified crop advisers, continuing certification hours for Indiana commercial pesticide applicators, private applicator recertification credit for private Indiana applicators and restricted-use pesticide credits for Michigan applicators will be available to participants for an additional $10. DEC. 7, 9, 10: PURDUE AGRICULTURAL TAX WORKSHOPS
    These half-day programs provide tax preparers in-depth coverage of selected farm and agricultural tax problems to supplement material presented in the Purdue Income Tax Schools. The ag tax workshops will be taught by Dan O'Sullivan, a retired revenue agent who operates a grain farm in Hendricks County. Workshop dates and locations include: Dec. 7, Vanderburgh County 4-H Center, U.S. 41, Evansville; Dec. 9, Wyndham Hotel, 2544 Executive Drive, Indianapolis; and Dec. 10, Ramada Plaza Hotel, 2521 E. Center St., Warsaw. Each workshop begins at 8 a.m., and sessions start at 8:30 a.m. All times are local.
