University invites the public to 'Discover Purdue'

Leadership, potential for economic development, research, education

Murray Blackwelder
"Discover Purdue" is the theme for an invitation to learn about Purdue University - its leadership and its future potential for economic development, research and education. In kicking off the yearlong campaign, Purdue is unveiling plans for a new nanotechnology center and Discovery Park, an interdisciplinary complex on the west edge of campus. The unviersity also is announcing some of the largest gifts in the university's history to support research, economic development, scholarships, professorships and athletics.

"Through this campaign, Purdue will share its vision for the future," said Murray Blackwelder, senior vice president for advancement. "The university is at work right now defining that vision and detailing a strategic plan, which we will complete this semester. The plan undoubtedly will call on us to recruit the brightest students and the best faculty and ensure Purdue's place as a preeminent institution for learning and research. It also will focus our energies on economic development and service in Indiana. "

To achieve that potential, though, Purdue will need help, he said. "Purdue needs the time, talents and financial support of our alumni, business leaders, elected officials and all Hoosiers," Blackwelder said. "Together, we can build an exciting future."
