March 3, 2005 Health care, homeland security, advanced manufacturing, information security to be consideredHigh-tech Purdue conference to feature new research, technologiesWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue's third annual Energizing Enterprise 2005 conference on March 22-24 will showcase the university's research and emerging technologies in health-care delivery, homeland security, product lifecycle management, as well as a symposium on information security.
The conference, featuring panel discussions with university and industry speakers, in addition to networking opportunities, will take place on campus at the Purdue Memorial Union and Stewart Center. Sponsored by the e-Enterprise Center at Discovery Park, the conference is free and open to the public. Required registration is available online. Energizing Enterprise 2005 kicks off at 8 a.m. March 22 with a continental breakfast and welcome talks by Joseph Pekny, director of the university's e-Enterprise Center and interim director of the Purdue Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering; John Sullivan, director of Purdue's Center for Advanced Manufacturing; and Alok Chaturvedi, director of the Purdue Homeland Security Institute. "Energizing Enterprise 2005 brings together the major initiatives of the e-Enterprise Center and the Center for Advanced Manufacturing at Discovery Park," Pekny said. "Our missions in health-care delivery, manufacturing and homeland security are putting Purdue researchers to work building opportunities and solving problems for industry and society, both here in Indiana and nationally." Energizing Enterprise will proceed on three tracks: applying engineering, science, management, technology, the liberal arts and other university disciplines to transform health-care delivery; using information technology to strengthen homeland security; and using product lifecycle management in advanced manufacturing. The three tracks will continue through noon on March 23. At 8 a.m. on March 23, Purdue's Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS) begins its sixth annual information security symposium, Security in Motion, which runs through March 24 with panels and seminars. Topics will include identity management; tools to detect, remediate and prevent or reduce vulnerabilities of large-scale information technology systems; and security for data stored off corporate sites. At 5:30 p.m. on March 24, Indiana Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman will wrap up the CERIAS symposium with the keynote talk in the Purdue Memorial Union. The complete symposium agenda is available online. Cost is $60 for the general public and $30 for CERIAS sponsors, affiliates and board members. Purdue faculty, students and staff can attend free. The Energizing Enterprise 2005 keynote luncheon speaker at 11:30 a.m. March 22 in the Purdue Memorial Union is Lee Hamilton, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Indiana and vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission. The March 23 keynote luncheon speaker at noon in the Purdue Memorial Union is Gino Santini, Eli Lilly and Co. senior vice president for corporate strategy and policy. The title of his talk is "Principles for Health Care Reform." The e-Enterprise tracks and CERIAS symposium will come together at 1:30 p.m. on March 23 in the Memorial Union's North and South Ballrooms for a joint poster session of relevant research from Purdue and other universities.
