Purdue University student inventors Amy Khal, a junior in agricultural engineering from Iowa City, Iowa, and Brian Beales, a junior in mechanical engineering from Mendota Heights, Minn., display their "Fire Bean," a fire-starter made from soy oil and sawdust. Their invention won them $5,000 in the second annual Innovative Uses for Soybeans contest sponsored by the Purdue Department of Agronomy and the Indiana Soybean Development Council.
