The Bell Tower, Purdue's newest landmark located at the heart of the Purdue University campus, was dedicated Oct. 14 as part of Homecoming weekend festivities. Made possible with a leadership gift from Purdue's Class of 1948, the tower is a contemporary interpretation of the old Heavilon Hall Tower, a campus landmark through the first half of the 20th century. Atop the tower are the four century-old bells from the old tower, which were placed in storage when the antiquated facility was razed in 1956.
The Purdue Mall, with the water sculpture at its center, is bounded by Hovde Hall of Administration (at left), Schleman Hall of Student Services (above Hovde Hall), and much of the engineering campus. The athletic complex is at the top of the picture.

Designed in 1989 by Robert Youngman, the 38-foot-tall, 228-ton concrete water sculpture is a campus focal point for studying, socializing, sunbathing and even "showering."
