Sculpture dedicated during Homecoming weekend
The Unfinished Block P sculpture was dedicated at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in Academy Park, north of the Purdue Stewart Center.
The sculpture was designed to symbolize that all people are works in progress and are never completely finished in the process of growing and learning. Rita and Rick Hadley, two bronze artists from Moments in Bronze in Otterbein, Ind., crafted the sculpture. Smaller bronze replicas of the sculpture also have been created.
Since the beginning, student leaders from a number of campus organizations have served as the driving force for the project, both by getting the project off the ground and raising money to pay for the Unfinished Block P sculpture.
Support for the sculpture came from gifts from the June and Charles Bertsch Foundation in Warsaw, Ind., the late Rex Sebastian of Dallas, a 1951 alumnus, and an anonymous donor, as well as many donations from student organizations, alumni and friends of Purdue.
