Purdue hires manager to oversee development of supplier diversity

Jesse Moore Jr.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue has appointed Jesse Moore Jr., business advocacy manager for the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, as the university's first manager of supplier diversity development.

Beginning Feb. 1, Moore will lead Purdue's statewide initiative to build and increase working relationships with minority and women-owned businesses. Moore will seek their participation in bidding to furnish Purdue products and services, including construction contracting and subcontracting, design services and material supplying.

"Mr. Moore's professional background and his years of experience in the Indiana business community uniquely qualify him to lead this important mission for Purdue," said Morgan R. Olsen, Purdue's executive vice president and treasurer, to whom Moore will report. "We are delighted to have such an experienced and strong administrator to oversee this initiative, which is an integral part of Purdue's strategic plan."

Moore says he is very excited to apply his background and skills to the Purdue mission.

"Having the opportunity to help create a program that will have such a profound impact on minority and women-owned businesses, while at the same time being part of making Purdue University even greater than it is, was just too much to pass up," Moore said. "My priorities will coincide with the engagement portion of the university's strategic plan. We will identify opportunities for increased numbers of qualified minority and women-owned businesses to participate with Purdue as the university continues to grow."

Before joining the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, Moore was executive director of the Indianapolis Black Chamber of Commerce. He also has served as executive director of economic development and small business at the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.

Moore has held positions with the brokerage firm Dean Witter, the Indiana Department of Commerce Office of Minority and Women-Owned Enterprise, Community Action Agency, and Indianapolis Parks and Recreation.

Moore has held leadership positions for the Forest Manor Multi-Service Center, a community services agency in Indianapolis; the Local Coordinating Committee for the Governor's Task Force on Drug and Alcohol Abuse, the Alumni Association of Martin University and the Indianapolis Parks Foundation.

He is a Vietnam War veteran, having spent two years in Southeast Asia. Upon his return, he served as a civilian egress technician at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Moore holds a bachelor's degree in business management from Martin University, Indianapolis.
