Improvisational dancers to perform at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Dance Division of Purdue University's Patti and Rusty Rueff Department of Visual and Performing Arts will present Dances We Don't Know Yet, an evening of improvisational music and dance, on Feb. 19 at the Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts.

The event will begin at 8 p.m. in the Pao Hall dance studio theater. Tickets will be available at the door for $5 each.

Coordinated by Dance Division faculty members Holly Jaycox and Sally Wallace, Dances We Don't Know Yet will include several separate performances featuring faculty and students from Purdue, as well as Lafayette-area community members and a traveling improvisational dance group. That group, called Lava, will travel from Chicago for the event.

Performances by Jaycox's Public Dance group and a Wallace-led collection of Dance Division students are scheduled. The Public Dance group also will partner with Petronio Bendito, assistant professor of visual and performing arts, in a separate production.

Jaycox and longtime dance partner Jeff Wallace will perform improvisational dance duets at different times during the night, and area musicians Jamie Newman and Rick Mummey will improvise sound and music for several of the performances.

A discussion session with the participating artists is scheduled to take place immediately after the performance.
