The contest is part of the center's second anniversary celebration entitled "Dia de la Familia" (Day of the Family), which will take place during Purdue's Spring Fest on April 16-17. The winning artwork will be featured in all promotional material for Dia de la Familia and will be displayed on the LCC Web site.

"We celebrate all of our supporters and recognize them as family, from students, faculty and staff, as well as departments across campus, donors, alumni and the community," said LCC director Maricela Alvarado. "Because this is our first art contest, I would like to encourage all creative students currently attending Purdue University, Ivy Tech State College or a Tippecanoe County high school to enter."

All forms of media will be considered, including but not limited to photos, sculptures, paintings, pastel drawings and computer graphics. All artwork must be original and must not be in violation of any copyright laws.

Submissions must be submitted as jpeg files by March 1 to snaza@purdue.edu. The winner will be announced March 11 and there will be a formal recognition ceremony during Spring Fest.

For more information, call LCC program coordinator Jessie Snaza, (765) 494-2530, snaza@purdue.edu.

This is one of four outreach efforts to students by the LCC. Other programs include taking Jefferson High School students to the Latino Leadership Conference at Indiana University on March 1; encouraging area high school students to perform at LCC's poetry café, which has a different topic every month; providing a campus tour this semester to Latino students from Jefferson High School.
