Purdue to present student-run X Works dance concert

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Dance Division of the Patti and Rusty Rueff Department of Visual and Performing Arts will present the X Works dance concert Friday and Saturday (April 1-2) at the Yue-Kong Pao Hall for Visual and Performing Arts.

Performances, which will take place in Dance Studio 1179 of Pao Hall, are scheduled for 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $3 each.

The X Works dance concert takes place each semester and is an entirely student-run event.

"X Works provides a great opportunity for the students to get some understanding of the whole production process," said Holly Jaycox, dance division faculty coordinator. "They create and perform the dances, do all the lighting and other technological work and also work as stage managers, house managers and ticket sellers.

"Students from across campus and from assorted disciplines will be performing in the show. Purdue offers only a dance minor, so there will be future engineers, teachers and pharmacists performing. That sort of diversity always makes things interesting."

The concert this semester will feature approximately 20 separate short dance works by both individual performers and dance groups. Several modern and jazz performances are scheduled for the event, which also will include performances in ballet, tap and hip-hop styles, among others.

Pao Hall is located at 552 W. Wood St. in West Lafayette.
