Purdue Women in Engineering Preview Day set for April 11

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – High school juniors will have an opportunity to learn more about careers in engineering at the 2005 Women in Engineering Preview Day from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 11 in Purdue University's Stewart Center.

The daylong program is free and lunch is included.

The program will give students the chance to get an overview and specific information on the various areas of engineering. There will be lectures and demonstrations presented by professors and Purdue students. Sessions will provide information on the first-year engineering program, admissions procedures, residence halls and careers in engineering.

"This program offers a unique opportunity for high school juniors to learn more about engineering and different careers one can pursue with a degree in engineering," said Beth Holloway, director of the Purdue Women in Engineering Program.

Parents also are invited to participate in the program and may attend some of the sessions, including a special program on financial aid. There will be two panel discussions, one with practicing women engineers and one with women engineering students. There also will be a question-and-answer session with Holloway and representatives from the First Year Engineering Program.

Reservations are limited to the first 250 students and will be taken until all spots are filled. To register, or for more information, contact Marsha Schluttenhofer in the Women in Engineering Program office at (765) 494-3889, mschlutt@purdue.edu.
