April 22, 2005 Summer camp explores engineering careers for high school studentsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Female students in the ninth and 10th grades can apply for a week-long summer camp to explore careers in engineering and technology. Exciting Discoveries for Girls in Engineering, also known as EDGE, will be offered June 5-10, by the Purdue Women in Engineering Program, which is designed to encourage high school girls to explore career paths in engineering. Activities at the camp include building an engine for a radio-controlled airplane, designing a Mars exploring robot and fabricating platform shoes. The group also will tour a local industrial manufacturing facility. Campers will stay at Cary Quadrangle residence hall. The cost is $400, and the price includes a banquet for the students and their parents. Scholarships are available for families for in need. Interested students must submit an application, a recommendation letter from a math or science teacher and a short essay from the student.
