Adult nontraditional students to attend orientation session

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A special orientation session for adult and nontraditional students new to Purdue University will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Monday (Aug. 15) in Schleman Hall, Room 112.

Span Plan Adult Student Services Program, housed within the Office of the Dean of Students, is sponsoring the orientation.

"Adult students make up 10 percent of the population at Purdue University, yet they often do not seek the help they need to balance their adult responsibilities and their studies," said Dorothy Hughes, a Span Plan counselor. "Span Plan is dedicated to helping all the adult/nontraditional students succeed, not just while they are students, but also after they graduate."

A panel of seasoned adult students will be on hand during the orientation to share their experiences, answer questions and offer coping strategies for incoming students.

During the orientation, students will have a chance to tour campus, learn about Purdue libraries and computer labs, and ask questions about parking.

Along with the orientation program, the Span Plan offers adult/nontraditional students academic, career and personal counseling, and career and job search services.

Free parking will be available after 5 p.m. in the gravel lot in front of Schleman Hall or in the Northwestern parking garage.
