Spike Lee cancels lecture at Purdue University

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Film director Spike Lee has canceled a Sept. 15 lecture at Purdue University.

Lee was scheduled to speak about "African-American Images in Hollywood" at a free lecture sponsored by Purdue's Black Cultural Center 7 p.m. in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse.

"We're working with Mr. Lee's office to find a date to reschedule," said BCC Director Renee Thomas. "This is extremely disappointing to us, but we're hopeful that we can coordinate another time for him to bring his message to Purdue."

The event was to be a part of the Black Cultural Center's theme for the semester, "Fade to Black: African-American Images in Film and Media." Other events associated with the theme will take place, such as the friends and family day "Where Everyone is a Star!" 3 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 10) at the Black Cultural Center, 1100 Third St.
