The Paul Taylor Dance Company is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To commemorate the season, Taylor is taking the six-member dance ensemble, Taylor 2, on a tour of the country, stopping only once in each of the 50 states. Taylor 2's Indiana appearance is being presented by Purdue Convocations.

Paul Taylor started his dance company in 1954. In 1993 he created the smaller company, Taylor 2, with the purpose of making his works more accessible to audiences around the globe by removing the logistical difficulties of touring with a large company. Taylor 2 also specializes in residency activities. The company's stay at Purdue includes several residency activities.

• On Wednesday (Oct. 12), Purdue Convocations and the West Lafayette Public Library sponsored a viewing of the Academy Award nominated documentary "Dancemaker," which examines the life and works of Paul Taylor.

• On Thursday (Oct. 13), Purdue Convocations and Taylor 2 dancers will sponsor a workshop called "Dance for Non Dancers." Taylor 2 dancers will teach basic dance and movement techniques appropriate to Paul Taylor's works. The workshop takes place at noon in Stewart Center, Room 302. The event is free and open to the public.

• On Friday (Oct. 14), Taylor 2 dancers will visit Harrison High School, where they will teach a class to approximately 60 students.

Tickets for the public performance by Taylor 2 are on sale now at all campus box offices by calling (800) 914-SHOW. Tickets for children 18 years and younger and Purdue students are $20. Tickets for the general public are $28.
