Black Cultural Center joins nonprofit group for health fair

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue University Black Cultural Center and the nonprofit organization Minority Health Coalition of Tippecanoe County will partner to present a Minority Health Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Black Cultural Center, 1100 Third St.

"We want to invite the entire community to come to our free health fair and learn about healthy lifestyle choices," said Jolivette Anderson-Douoning, BCC program supervisor. "Our focus is on a holistic approach to obesity and stress management."

The Jahari Dancers, one of the BCC student arts ensembles, will conduct sessions featuring dance as a workout. Other participants include Yon of the Highland Therapy Center & School of Massage, who will give sample shoulder and body massages, and the Arnett Weighs Program, which will provide informational sessions by Arnett spokesperson Brandi Gibson. Local nurses will provide blood pressure and diabetes screenings and visitors also can be weighed and measured.
