Purdue to give decorating show red-carpet premiereWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. A touch of Hollywood will come to Purdue University when University Residences and Boiler Television unveil a residence hall decorating program with a red-carpet premiere, complete with limousines and paparazzi."UR Home" will debut at 8 p.m. Feb. 7 in Fowler Hall. Prior to the screening, a red-carpet reception will be held in Stewart Center's West Foyer, beginning at 7:30 p.m. "The premiere will be students' first chance to see the beginning of what we hope will be a series of similar shows on Boiler Television," said BTV manager Brian Thompson, who helped organize the program. "This is a Purdue take on popular home-design shows like 'Trading Spaces.' We were able to bring the principles of design used in those shows to help residents change their residence hall rooms into homes." Two pairs of roommates in Shreve Hall redesigned each other's rooms with a $250 budget and the help of two design students from the College of Consumer and Family Sciences. The six participants are expected to arrive at the premiere via limousine between 7:30 and 7:45 p.m. The premiere of the show is free and open to the public. After the screening, the four contestants, two designers and the show's host will hold a question-and-answer session where attendees can learn tips for decorating their own residence hall rooms or apartments creatively and inexpensively. "Participating in 'UR Home' gave the student designers a change to gain valuable experience and to help residents improve their living areas," said Jessica Burger, residential life manager at Hawkins Hall who also helped organize the program. "The creativity that the designers used was amazing, and other students will be able to get great ideas to apply to their own homes." BTV will begin airing "UR Home" on its B2 station later this month. A schedule of the show's airings will be available at the BTV Web site.
