Purdue Extension to offer fifth annual crop clinic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service's fifth annual South West Indiana Crop Clinic will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Shiloh United Methodist Church, located west of Jasper on State Road 56.

"Critical issue updates on fertilizer costs and soybean disease management are the main issues," said Jim Peter, Purdue Extension specialist. "However, we are trying to appeal to everyone in crop production."

Sessions that will be offered during the clinic include dealing with herbicide-resistant weeds, stacked gene insect control traits for corn in southern Indiana, nitrogen management in forages, dealing with problem weeds in forages, conservation tillage, cutting cost with soybeans and soybean rust fungicide labels.

The clinic also will have a Pesticide Applicator Recertification Program (PARP). To obtain recertification, participants must attend two sessions that deal with PARP, as well as the 3:30 p.m. session on soybean rust fungicide.

Along with Peter, many Purdue Extension specialists will be presenting. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and costs $5 per person. There is an additional $10 fee for those seeking PARP credit. Sessions will break at noon for lunch at local restaurants. Participants will receive a copy of the "Purdue Corn and Soybean Field Guide" and a printed copy of the presentations.
