Aspiring writers can share works at Purdue Poetry Slam
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Writers wishing to share their poetry will get their chance at an event next month at Purdue University.The Purdue Slam will be 8-10 p.m. March 3 on the ground floor of Purdue Memorial Union across from Freshens. Students and community members are invited to read their own poems or listen to others read. Each poem will be scored by judges and prizes will be awarded at the end of the night. There is no cost to attend.
The Poetry Slam is sponsored by Purdue Student Union Board and has been held each semester since 2004.
"Typically, we have about 75 to 100 people attend the events," said Beth Riedeman, Purdue Student Union Board program adviser. "Not everyone in attendance reads, but it's always fun to see the interaction between the writers and the audience."
Interested writers can sign up to read at the event starting Feb. 20 in Purdue Memorial Union, Room 268.
