Liberal Arts fellows present research projectsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Two assistant professors from Purdue University's College of Liberal Arts will discuss their research projects at the spring faculty meeting on Tuesday (March 21).These projects deal with the art and science of teaching. The presentations, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 320 of Stewart Center, are open to the public. The presenters and their topics are: Silvia Oliveira, assistant professor of foreign languages and literatures, "Thinking Otherness (through Film)." Ryan Schneider, assistant professor of English, "Forms of the Word: Teaching Intersections of Written Texts and Oral Traditions." Oliveira earned her bachelor's degree in modern languages and literatures and Portuguese and French from the University of Porto, Portugal. In 2005, she completed her doctorate in Hispanic languages and literatures from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She became an assistant professor at Purdue in 2004. She also is the 2005-06 College of Liberal Arts Diversity Fellow. Schneider is a fellow in the Center for Undergraduate Instructional Excellence. The center helps faculty to implement new ideas in teaching and curricular projects. He became an assistant professor of English in 2002. He earned his doctorate from Duke University.
