Teams, robots take their best shots

Two teams work to control their robots Friday (March 17) during the 2006 FIRST Robotics Boilermaker Regional at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. The three-day event includes 29 teams from six states competing against each other with basketball-playing robots. From right are Boiler Precision Guessworks team members Steve Wien, Tyler Evans and Craig Locker as they battle against a robot controlled by Kokomo TechnoKats Robotics team members Nick Bailey and Kyle Love. The event, one of 33 regional competitions taking place this month around the United States, wraps up Saturday (March 18). Winners advance to the worldwide competition next month in Atlanta. FIRST Ñ For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology Ñ was founded in 1989 by internationally known inventor Dean Kamen.
