Jischke to detail Purdue's efforts against alcohol abuse on campusWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue University President Martin C. Jischke on Monday (April 3) will discuss the problems created by alcohol on campus and the ways Purdue helps students and staff members make good choices. From 2-3 p.m. during WBAA Radio's live call-in show "AM 920 Magazine," Jischke will field questions from host Dan Skinner and the listening audience. Last year, more than 1,700 college students died from alcohol poisoning or alcohol-related accidents, and nearly 600,000 students were injured in alcohol-related accidents, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. "There is no question that underage drinking and alcohol abuse are serious issues for universities, including this one," Skinner said. "Fortunately, Purdue has many programs to educate, inform, counsel and remediate on alcohol issues." To ask questions, local listeners can call (765) 496-1999. Listeners outside the local calling area can call toll-free at (866) 922-2101. WBAA's AM signal reaches approximately two-thirds of Indiana and can be heard globally via the station's Web site. Jischke discusses different topics on every show, which usually airs the first Wednesday of each month. Jischke's out-of-town obligations prompted April's rescheduling. Past interview topics have included Purdue's capital campaign, funding for research at Purdue and Purdue athletics. Previous interviews are archived on the station's Web site.
