Purdue alum to speak on climbing the corporate ladder

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A College of Technology alumnus and Coca-Cola vice president will talk to Purdue students about advancing in corporate America.

Orlando D. Ashford will present "Accelerating Your Corporate Climb … How to Become a Rocket," at 2:30 p.m. Friday (April 7) in the Krannert Auditorium. The talk is free and open to the public.

Ashford's talk will give students and others advice about how to not only succeed in the corporate world, but how to advance quickly and along a path with which you are happy. The talk is sponsored by the Department of Organizational Leadership and Supervision.

Ashford of Atlanta, Ga., earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in organizational leadership and supervision from Purdue in 1991 and 1993, respectively.

As vice president of corporate human resources and culture for Coca-Cola Co., he provides leadership for all of the corporation's human resources initiatives worldwide, including organizational development, leadership development, diversity initiatives, compensation and benefits, and training. He also provides guidance for the company's current culture transformation efforts.

Before joining Coca-Cola, Ashford worked for Motorola, where he earned the 2004 CEO Award for Outstanding Performance. Ashford has served as vice president of global human resources strategy and organizational development for the company, where he had global responsibility for human resources strategic planning, organizational development, human resources systems and human resources support of mergers and acquisitions. While at Motorola, he also led the human resources function for their North American business.

Prior to Motorola, Ashford was a partner in the change management consulting firm Mercer Delta Consulting. He has also worked as director of organizational development and performance for Ameritech and as a change management consultant for Andersen Consulting.

Ashford will be recognized as one of the nine Distinguished Technology Alumni by the College of Technology at a banquet Friday night.
