Purdue to honor student staff during Student Employment Week

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue University community will recognize student employees for their contributions during National Student Employment Week April 9-16.

The National Student Employment Association and Student Employment Services in the Division of Financial Aid at Purdue promote the week as a way to acknowledge the importance of the student work experience. Employers on and off campus are urged to recognize the efforts of their student employees during the week.

Joyce Hall, executive director of financial aid at Purdue, said more students continue to invest in themselves by directly contributing to the costs of their educations through earnings from working.

"Both the students and the employers stand to gain from this valuable partnership," Hall said. "The students earn money to help pay for their educations and gain important work experience while employers benefit by having competent employees to meet their daily business needs."

Hall said that while many Purdue students are employed on campus, there are a significant number who work in the surrounding Lafayette and West Lafayette communities.

"Student employees are dedicated and motivated workers who offer employers a unique variety of talents and skills," she said. "It is important that all campus and area employers recognize the efforts of these student employees as they seek a balance between college coursework, job duties and the other demands on their time."

Purdue offers several programs, including federal work study, job location and development, co-operative education and internship opportunities to bring students workers and employers with current job openings together.
