Indiana State Museum to showcase 4-H animals

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Indiana State Museum later this month will showcase 4-H animals as part of a series highlighting pets and their history.

4-H weekend will be held 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 24 and noon to 4 p.m. June 25.

During the event, members of 4-H will present pocket pets, such as fish, guinea pigs and hamsters; dog obedience and agility demonstrations; and llamas maneuvering through obstacle courses.

Other demonstrations will feature chicken embryology and veterinary science.

Members also will show animals that will be exhibited at upcoming county fairs, as well as posters and information about these animals.

"Our goal is to help highlight our history with pets," said Steve McKinley, Purdue University Extension specialist. "We also would like to further share information about 4-H with the public."

Alongside the animals, there will be displays on how to be a more responsible pet owner and additional instructions on how to become involved in 4-H.

Throughout the weekend, 4-H members and their families can purchase reduced-price museum tickets at $3.50 for adults, $3.25 for seniors and $2 for children ages 3-12. These tickets will be available at the door.

For non-members, the 4-H display will be included in the regular museum admission price of $7 for adults, $6.50 for seniors and $4 for children.
