Faculty and staff honors

— Michael Ladisch, head of Purdue University’s Laboratory of Renewable Resources, was a recipient of the inaugural Paul Dana Biofuels Award for his research on bio-based batteries and ways to replace fossil fuel-derived products. The award, which was given at a ceremony introducing ethanol in Indy 500 cars, honors the late Paul Dana, a race car driver instrumental in getting the Indy Racing League to use ethanol.

— Richard Linton, project director of the Center for Food Safety Engineering, will receive the Myron Solberg Award for excellence in leadership and development of a cooperative multi-institutional project. The Institute of Food Technologists, a nonprofit scientific society focused on food science and technology issues, presents this award to scientists who have made outstanding contributions to research and education. Linton’s award will be presented June 24-28 at the institute’s conference in Orlando, Fla.

Alumni honors

— Mak Hossain, a recent film studies student in the College of Liberal Arts, won the bronze medal in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences 33rd annual Student Academy Awards for his documentary about three girls living in the slums of Bangladesh. He produced, directed and wrote the documentary "Three Beauties," which is about three girls, ages 7, 12 and 16, who do not know each other but share similar life paths. Hossain, who also has a bachelor's degree from Purdue's Krannert School of Management, participated in the June 10 award presentation.
