Purdue honors university faculty scholarsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue University has recognized 17 faculty members with designated professorships during the 2006 Faculty Scholars Program.Select associate and full professors who have been tenured within the last five years are awarded this distinction in recognition of their scholarship. Faculty scholars, nominated by committees from their academic areas and approved by the provost, receive additional funding to support their research. The program was created in 1998. The faculty scholars include: Natalia Dudareva, professor of horticulture and landscape architecture. Dirk E. Maier, professor of agriculture and biological engineering. Olin E. Rhodes Jr., professor of forestry and natural resources. Rashid Bashir, professor of electrical and computer engineering. Darcy Bullock, professor of civil engineering. Weinong (Wayne) Chen, professor of aeronautics and astronautics engineering. Ganesh Subbarayan, professor of mechanical engineering. Janet Afary, professor of history. Richard A. Gibbs, professor of medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology. Wei Zheng, professor of health sciences. Bruce Craig, professor of statistics. Wei Cui, professor of physics. Donna Fekete, professor of biological sciences. Daniel Raftery, professor of chemistry. David Thompson, professor of chemistry. Melissa Dark, professor of computer technology. Suresh K. Mittal, professor of veterinary medicine. These additions bring the number of faculty scholars to 111.
