Purdue Family Day to offer variety of activitiesWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Visitors to Purdue on Saturday (Sept. 9) will have a number of activities and events to choose from as a part of the annual Family Day sponsored by Purdue Student Union Board.The day will begin at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast on the Memorial Mall with President Martin C. Jischke. Astronaut John E. Blaha also will be a guest speaker. Tickets are $5 per person; reservations are required. For information or to register, call (800) 213-3044. From 9-11 a.m., many faculty and staff members from a variety of schools will be on hand to meet with families and offer tours of campus facilities. A complete listing of school visits and tours is available online. Families will get a chance to see the Purdue football team in action when it takes on Miami University at 1 p.m. For ticket information, call (765) 494-3194, (800) 49-SPORT or visit the web page. Following the game, the Tony Zamora Jazz Ensemble will perform during the Boilermaker BBQ from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in Academy Park behind Purdue Memorial Union. A caricature artist and a balloon artist will be on hand, and families will have a chance to make their own candy. All activities are free, but the cost for the meal is $10.99 for adults and $6.99 for children under 10. Tickets for the meal can be purchased only at the event. In case of rain, the event will be held inside Purdue Memorial Union at Union Market. Many student organizations and departments will offer other activities from 4-11 p.m. A complete list is available online. Also, from 6-8 p.m. students, faculty and staff with a valid Purdue ID and their guests can participate in Xtreme Bowling and Billiards at Purdue Memorial Union for a special rate. At 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., the movie "Click" will be screened in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. Tickets are $3 for students with a Purdue ID and $5 for non-Purdue students, and they can be purchased at the door.
