Bloomington band Early Day Miners to join Wilco performanceWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Bloomington band Early Day Miners have joined the bill as a supporting act for Wilco's performance at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4 in Elliott Hall of Music.Purdue University's Student Concert Committee is presenting the performance. Early Day Miners are a "musical cooperative" that has been producing music for the past 10 years. The group formed when Daniel Burton and Rory Leitch began playing on front porches and basements with Joe Brumley, a mutual friend of theirs. Early Day Miners incorporate a revolving cast of accompanying musician friends for both live shows and recordings. According to the band's profile on its Web site, Early Day Miners spin American rural music into cinematic, experimental textures that contain a prominent streak of melancholy with some slow core tendencies. The band's most recent album, "Offshore," was released in August on Secretly Canadian Records. The album is influenced by late 1980s and early 1990s alternative rock music from the Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Mark Hollis and the band's predecessor Peter Gabriel. In the tradition of legendary music producers Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, Burton collected an all-star cast to flesh out his vision for the album. "Offshore" features the core band of Burton, Brumley, Jonathan Richardson and Matt Griffin (OlO) with special appearances by Amber Webber (Black Mountain), Dan Matz on guitar (Windsor for the Derby), the prepared bass of Darin Gray, Unwed Sailor's Johnathon Ford on electric bass and mixed by the hands of John McEntire (Tortoise). Tickets for the Wilco performance with Early Day Miners are available at the Elliott Hall and Stewart Center box offices at (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW. Tickets also are available through Ticketmaster outlets. All tickets are $28.50; the price includes a facilities fee.
