Speaker to address rape prevention, education topics

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A rape prevention and education program will be offered at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 26) in Purdue University's Loeb Playhouse.

Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Delta Delta Delta sorority, the Purdue Panhellenic Association, Women's Resource Office and Office of the Dean of Students will sponsor the presentation of "Kristin's Story: A Story of Acquaintance Rape and Depression." The national Alpha Chi Omega and Delta Delta Delta foundations fund the program.

The Purdue program is free and open to the public.

Andrea Cooper will share the story of her daughter Kristin's acquaintance rape and subsequent suicide. Kristin, a member of Alpha Chi Omega and a student of Baker University in Kansas, committed suicide on New Year's Eve 1995. Her mother, a member of Delta Delta Delta and a Florida State University alumnus, has been giving similar presentations during the past eight years at more than 22 campuses per year.

Karen Fraser-Mills, a rape counselor with Purdue Office of the Dean of Students, will be on hand following the presentation to answer audience questions.
