Campus activities:

— University Residences staff and residents will have a fund-raising lunch on Saturday (Sept. 23) from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Owen Hall's west lawn. A $6 meal includes Johnsonville brats, chips and a drink. Proceeds go to the United Way. For more information, contact Frannie Schneider at (765) 494-6762, fschneid@purdue.edu.


Faculty and staff honors:

— Tom Templin, a professor of health and kinesiology, was inducted into the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education on Sept. 16 in Tucson. The academy represents the top active, emeritus and international scholars in the field, and only 480 individuals have been elected into the academy since 1926. Templin, who served as department head from 1996 to 2006, is an expert in the study of the lives and careers of teachers and the teacher education process.

— Richard Ghiselli, an associate professor of hospitality and tourism management, received the 2006 Arnold I. Cohen Faculty Development Endowment Award. The award will support his attendance at a two-day workshop of the American Management Association and development of new content for the financial management course he teaches. The Cohen Faculty Endowment Award was established in 2003 and honors the late founder of Arni's, which operates 18 restaurants throughout Indiana. — P. Youli Mantzicopoulos was recently named one of the 50 most productive authors in school psychology literature between the years of 1996 and 2005 by the journal Psychology in the Schools. She is a professor of educational psychology in Purdue's College of Education.

— Barbara Solomon, a clinical professor in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, was elected to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Legislative Council. The council is responsible for the association's focused initiatives, approval of the budget and approval of all policy documents. The three-year appointment begins in January.
