Purdue hires new Boiler Volunteer Network director
As assistant dean of students in the Student Activities and Organizations area, Brown will work with students, faculty and staff to develop and promote community service opportunities for individuals, groups and classes. He will coordinate and promote service programs such as Community Service Action Days, the community service fair, donation programs and Boiler Blast.
Brown most recently was executive director of the Greater Lafayette Volunteer Bureau. He also has worked as an assistant professor of political science at Ball State University and as a community planner.
Brown has served as a commissioner on the Indiana Commission on Community Service and Volunteerism in the Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives. He also has served two terms as president of the Indiana Association of Volunteer Centers.
He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Eisenhower College in Seneca Falls, N.Y., and a master's degree in political science public administration from Miami University in Ohio.
Last year, Boiler Volunteer Network helped 1,775 Purdue students and staff members find volunteer opportunities. In addition, the office organized five community service days that involved more than 530 students. Another 770 students participated in the annual Boiler Blast volunteer event in the spring.
