Scholarships offered at Purdue's statewide location in KokomoWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Students who are planning to attend Purdue's College of Technology statewide location in Kokomo in the 2007-08 academic year are encouraged to apply for one or more of a variety of available scholarships."Scholarships provide a much-needed boost for many current students or those who are considering enrolling in our programs," said Thomas Capozzoli, director of the College of Technology in Kokomo. "Last year 20 students at the Kokomo location received $55,000 in scholarships. Thanks to the hard work of our students, along with the generosity of our donors, we are able to help make dreams of a college education come true for many in our area." In 2005-06, 30 scholarship awards were presented for 14 different scholarship offerings. Those applying for the scholarships should be high school graduates with a B- or above grade-point average and be admitted to Purdue. Continuing students must have an overall grade-point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. Scholarship recipients may be eligible to reapply for these scholarships three times, a maximum of four years. Scholarships are normally disbursed for half the total amount each semester. The following scholarships are available to full- or part-time students in Kokomo who maintain at least six credit hours a semester: The Monroe Custom Homes Scholarship, $500. The Purdue/Kokomo 400 Club Scholarship, $500-$1,000. John Milner Memorial Scholarship, $1,000. Thomas and Rosemary Sheehan Scholarship, $1,000. Students must be female and at least 21 years old. Brian Clemens Scholarship, $500. Students must be a Maconaquah High School graduate. The following scholarships are available to full-time students in Kokomo (at least 12 credit hours per semester): First National Bank Scholarship, $1,000. Security Federal Savings Bank Scholarship, $1,000. Purdue/Kokomo 400 Club Scholarship, $1,000-$4,000. Marnie Cole Renard Scholarship, $1,500. Preference is given to applicants who are U.S. or naturalized citizens, single mothers and residents of Miami County. Applicants also must write a one-page essay describing their plans and ambitions in their chosen field. Delphi Delco Electronics Systems Purdue/Kokomo Scholarship, $2,000. Richard H. and Marian E. Blacklidge Scholarship, $2,000. Glen and Jeanne Harland Scholarship, $3,000. John and Hilda Hingst Scholarship, $1,500 and $3,000. Applicants must maintain a minimum graduation index (cumulative grade-point average) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. If an applicant is a Mid America Beverage Inc. employee, employee's child or grandchild, the minimum graduation index is 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Gala Scholarship, $1,000. Students interested in applying for one or more of the scholarships can pick up an application at the Kokomo location main office, 2300 S. Washington St. Students should submit an application along with a brief statement of their academic goals, a transcript and three letters of recommendation to the Purdue Student Services Coordinator, 2300 S. Washington St., P.O. Box 9003, Kokomo, IN 46904-9003. The deadline for application submission is Jan. 26. The Purdue's College of Technology in Kokomo, one of 10 such locations across the state, offers programs in computer graphics technology, computer and information technology, electrical engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, and organizational leadership and supervision.
