Appointments and promotions

— Eight Indiana business leaders have been appointed to the Technical Assistant Program's advisory council. They include Brian Emerick, president of Micropulse Inc. in Columbia City, Ind.; Michael Ottenweller, president of Ottenweller Company Inc. in Fort Wayne, Ind.; Kevin Ahaus, president of Ahaus Tool and Engineering Inc. in Richmond, Ind.; Paul Fithian, a partner in Lighthouse Industries in Michigan City, Ind.; Jean Harcourt, president of Harcourt Industries in Milroy, Ind.; Albert Langsenkamp, CEO of Sigma Holdings LLC in Indianapolis; Steve Zeller, plant manager of Perdue Farms Inc. in Washington, Ind.; and Paul Chisholm, president and CEO of Perry Foam Products Inc. in Lafayette, Ind. The advisory council informs TAP of industry challenges and provides feedback on TAP services. The Technical Assistance Program connects Indiana companies with Purdue resources so that the companies can remain globally competitive.

Faculty and staff honors

— Timothy Folta, associate professor of management, received an award for the "Best Paper Exploring the Importance of Small Businesses to the U.S. Economy or a Public Policy Issue of Importance to the Entrepreneurial Community" from the Office of Advocacy, U.S. Small Business Administration. Folta wrote the paper, titled "A Real Options Model of Stepwise Entry into Self-Employment," with Karl Wennberg, from Stockholm School of Economics, and Frederic Delmar, from EM Lyon. It was presented at the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference at Indiana University in June.
