Purdue teaches parent-child teams about computer science
Purdue University's College of Science is inviting parents and children to learn about computer science together through the "Are You Smarter than Your Fifth Grader?" program.

The program, a series of four workshops, offers programming and graphic design activities for students in grades four through six and their parents or guardians. Parent and student pairs will create their own digital world to tell a story and will work with robotics using the ALICE 3D graphic design program and Pico Cricket design studio. Participants will be able to keep their Pico Cricket Design Kit, valued at $250.

Purdue Galleries presents "Platforms" painting exhibit
Purdue Galleries begins the new year with exhibitions of large-scale paintings and equine images from the permanent collection.

In the Stewart Center Gallery, Champaign, Illinois artist Patrick Earl Hammie presents a series of paintings that respond to the contemporary challenges facing minorities in the United States.  "Patrick Earl Hammie: Platforms" will be on display from Monday (Jan. 11) to Feb. 21.

2010 Sears Lecture Series announced
The 2010 Sears Lecture Series will feature four public lectures that focus on the theme of "Presidential Leadership in Global Economic Crisis." All talks are free and open to the public.

The Sears Lecture Series is sponsored by the Department of History, which is housed in Purdue's College of Liberal Arts.
