	  <description><![CDATA[Higher education administrators from across Indiana will explore ways to address the educational needs of student service members and veterans at a conference hosted by the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University and its Operation Diploma initiative. 
<p class="FORMAT-BODY">Operation Diploma's first conference, called Launching Transformation, aims to empower and motivate higher education administrators to improve the policies and programs that serve student service members, veterans and their families. The conference, scheduled for Nov. 2 and 3 in Indianapolis, is underwritten by Lilly Endowment Inc., which also gave a $5.8 million grant to launch Operation Diploma in 2008. </p>]]></description>

It also aims to reverse declining college enrollment in computer science by improving the quality and availability of an advanced computer science curriculum at the high school level.</p>]]></description>

Rowling isn't afraid to talk about death and dying, and she has done a good job handling grief in the Harry Potter series," says Heather Servaty-Seib, a counseling psychologist and associate professor of educational studies. "Her characters and storylines show that grieving is idiosyncratic, and that's good because it is unique to each person."</p>]]></description>

<p class="FORMAT-BODY">Timothy Newby, professor of educational technology, charged his students in the "Introduction to Educational Technology and Computing" class with investigating 34 different Web 2.0 technologies and figuring out how to put them to use in a classroom. Each team, which included members in Australia, Singapore, Taiwan and China, then developed an online resource, or "wiki chapter," for teachers that detailed how to use the application.</p>]]></description>

A grant from the Lilly Endowment of $10,161,106 will support the Indiana program, which focuses on high school math and science teaching. 
<p class="MsoBodyText3">The Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellowship, to be announced at a news conference today in Indianapolis by the Foundation, Endowment officials, and Gov. Mitch Daniels, will provide Fellows with a $30,000 stipend to complete a year-long master's program at one of four selected Indiana universities - Ball State University, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Purdue University, and the University of Indianapolis. They will present research on how technology, especially the Internet, has changed the way citizens interact with each other and their government and the future of education. 	  <description><![CDATA[The FIRST Boilermaker Regional Competition, in which teams of high school and college students, mentors and their robot inventions compete against each other in a "sporting" event, takes place March 15-17 in the Purdue University Armory. 
<p>About 40 teams are expected to participate in the FIRST competition, or For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, a program that combines sports with science and technology. Qualifying matches take place Thursday and Friday (March 15-16), and top-ranked teams will compete in final rounds on Saturday (March 17) afternoon. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and is free and open to the public.
