<p class="MsoNormal">The Phase I trial is a multi-center, open-label dose escalation study designed to evaluate the safety and tolerability of EC0489 in patients with refractory or metastatic cancer who have exhausted standard therapeutic options. </p>]]></description>

	  <description><![CDATA[Representatives of two Purdue Research Park-based companies launched from research developed at Purdue University will travel to California's Silicon Valley on May 18 to make formal presentations to venture capitalists.
<p class="MsoNormal">The companies, Intelliphage Inc. and Matrix-Bio Inc., were selected during a competition last October at the Company Fundraising Boot Camp held on campus at Discovery Park's Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship. The event, sponsored by Lonergan Partners, is held annually to help entrepreneurs develop fundraising strategies for their companies. Purdue Provost Randy Woodson, and Leah Jamieson, dean of the College of Engineering, will speak in California, along with Mark Lonergan, founder and managing partner of Lonergan Partners.</p>]]></description>

	  <description><![CDATA[The number of technology commercialization activities by researchers throughout Purdue University increased more than 40 percent during the past four years, according to university officials. 
<p class="MsoNormal">In the 2007-2008 fiscal year, there were 237 invention disclosures across all disciplines at the university, compared to 167 in the 2003-2004 fiscal year. An invention disclosure is a process undertaken when researchers file a discovery with the Purdue Research Foundation's Office of Technology Commercialization that is patentable and has market potential. </p>]]></description>

	 <title>New smart tire senses damage, increases safety</title>

	  <description><![CDATA[A new type of "smart" tire developed by a Purdue University professor is able to sense damage when a tire goes flat or loses treads, making it safer for road travel.
<p class="FORMAT-BODY">The tire's technology also can be used to detect impending defects before a tire is mass produced.</p>
<p class="FORMAT-BODY">A team led by Gary W. Krutz, director of Purdue's Electrohydraulic Center and a professor of agricultural and biological engineering, has developed a tire system that senses failures in real time. The concept behind the technology is that the entire tire acts as a sensor that sends information to onboard computers. </p>
