	  <description><![CDATA[Officials at Endocyte Inc., a cancer drug discovery and development company, announced Tuesday (Oct. 27, 2009) that the company has been awarded a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office covering vitamin receptor binding anticancer agents. 
<p class="MsoNormal">The patent, entitled "Vitamin Receptor Binding Drug Delivery Conjugates" (U.S. Patent No. 7,601,332), covers novel conjugation linkages and anticancer agents, including Endocyte's EC145, which is currently in development as a potential treatment for ovarian and non-small cell lung cancers.</p>]]></description>

	  <description><![CDATA[Although breast cancer remains one of the most-often diagnosed cancers in women each year, methods to improve the detection and elimination of cancerous cells are being discovered, developed and tested each day around the world with plans to deliver them to tomorrow's markets, say researchers at the Purdue Research Park of West Lafayette . 
<p class="MsoNormal">October is the 25th anniversary of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 190,000 American women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and that there will be more than 40,000 deaths from breast cancer in 2009. </p>]]></description>

	 <title>Chao Center donates medications to combat multidrug-resistant tuberculosis</title>

	  <description><![CDATA[The Chao Center for Industrial Pharmacy &amp; Contract Manufacturing officials announced Tuesday (Sept. 22) that they will donate about 1,800 bottles of a medication to help fight multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) to Cambodia and Ethiopia. 
<p class="MsoNormal">The Chao Center, which is based in the Purdue Research Park, produces and manufactures drugs in smaller quantities that can't be produced in a cost-effective way by larger pharmaceutical companies. Eli Lilly and Company partnered with the center in 2007 to continue to produce and distribute the multidrug-resistant medication Seromycin&reg;. The partnership is part of a $135 million effort by Lilly to combat tuberculosis and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis around the world.</p>]]></description>

<p class="MsoNormal">Nano-Rad will introduce a new platform technology called the Nano-Rad Fade&trade; that will deliver low-dose rate radiation precisely at tumor margins immediately following their surgical removal. The technology was created in Florida by Bruno Schmidt and John Kuperus, Ph.D., who created the company with Richard F. Mussmann, company president and CEO.</p>]]></description>

<p class="MsoNormal">Results were presented at the 13th World Conference on Lung Cancer in San Francisco. The single arm Phase II study evaluated the therapeutic agent EC145 and the molecular imaging agent EC20 in 42 patients with advanced adenocarcinoma of the lung. Forty percent of patients involved in the clinical trial had already failed at least four chemotherapy regimens prior to enrollment in the study. </p>]]></description>

	  <description><![CDATA[<A href="http://www.endocyte.com" cmid="AVNews2:Summary">Endocyte Inc.</a>&nbsp;has announced positive interim results from an ongoing <A href="http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00511485" >Phase II clinical study</a>&nbsp;of <A href="http://www.endocyte.com/clinical.html" >EC145</a>&nbsp;in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).&nbsp; The single arm Phase II study is designed to evaluate treatment with EC145 in patients with <A href="http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00511485" >chemotherapy-resistant NSCLC</a>&nbsp;who have failed multiple therapy regimens.&nbsp; 
<p class="MsoNormal">At the planned interim analysis, 35 percent (6/17) of patients achieved clinical benefit (CR+PR+SD), 67 percent (4/6) of patients had a duration of response of six months or longer, and one patient had significant tumor reduction (&gt;30 percent).&nbsp; All of these patients had previously failed two to eight prior therapies. Analysis of the safety data indicates that EC145 was generally well tolerated.&nbsp; Based on the positive results from the interim analysis, the two-stage clinical trial will continue on to full enrollment. </p>]]></description>

	  <description><![CDATA[Endocyte Inc. has announced the initiation of a randomized Phase II clinical study of the company's investigational drug EC145 in women with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. The phase II trial, also called the "PRECEDENT study," will evaluate the efficacy and safety of EC145 when administered in combination with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD). PLD is widely used as a standard therapy for women with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. The efficacy and safety of the combination of EC145/PLD will be compared to treatment with PLD without EC145. 
<p class="MsoNormal">Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cancer among women in the United States and the leading cause of death due to cancer of the female reproductive system. The PRECEDENT study will enroll 122 subjects and involve more than 50 clinical centers in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. <p>The new Medicare regulations for end-stage renal disease providers, which take effect Tuesday (Oct. 14), require that dialysis clinics provide both monitoring and surveillance of dialysis patients' vascular access sites. An access site is the connection between the patient and the machine that acts as an artificial kidney to filter impurities, waste and excess fluid from the blood and returns the blood to the patient's body.</p>]]></description>

<p>Innovation Center, 3400 Kent Ave., will provide 45,000 square feet of space for more than 200 software engineer and business analyst positions for EDS. The remaining space will be used for other park companies. The Purdue Research Foundation and South Bend-based Holladay Properties Inc. have formed a joint venture to develop Innovation Center, which is slated to open in early 2009.</p>]]></description>
