September 4, 2007 Chinese courses offered at PurdueWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Three non-credit courses in elementary Chinese conversation, Chinese for business, and Chinese calligraphy will be offered this fall through the Confucius Institute at Purdue and Purdue Continuing Education.The courses are open to anyone with an interest in Chinese language and culture. Elementary Chinese Conversation 1 is intended to develop oral skills for self-expression at the elementary level of Chinese. The course also will develop participants' cultural awareness by introducing general topics on Chinese culture, society, history and economy. Classes will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 11-Oct. 12. Elementary Chinese Conversation 2 for Business develops the practical speaking skills achieved in Elementary Chinese Conversation 1 and will direct participants toward the use of the language for business purposes. Topics will include daily business communication in Chinese and cultural and social etiquettes in working with the Chinese business community. Classes will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 23-Nov. 20. Registration for all courses can be completed online at: https://www.continuinged.purdue.edu/chinese/ The Confucius Institute at Purdue is a collaboration among the colleges of Liberal Arts, Engineering and the Krannert School of Management, as well as Shanghai Jiaotong University in Shanghai, China. One-hundred forty Confucius Institutes worldwide are sponsored by the Chinese Language Council International to develop relationships and understanding between countries.
