Advisers, speakers sought for Purdue student organizations

The more than 840 student organizations at Purdue include special interest groups, academic societies, religious organizations, programming boards, musical ensembles, athletic teams, political organizations and independent living groups. A complete listing of student organizations, ranging from the African Students Association to the Philosophy Society to the Zoological Society, is available online at http://www.purdue.edu/getinvolved

"Whether advisers are approving T-shirt designs, attending meetings, consulting with annual retreats or just discussing current events, they have a number of opportunities to enhance the out-of-classroom experience for students," said Pablo Malavenda, associate dean of students for student activities and organizations. "Advisers guide the student organization members through the process of effectively operating an organization and also act as confidants in both individual and organizational-related matters."

Malavenda said that staff, faculty and administrators also are needed to serve as guest speakers for organizations upon request.

Anyone interested in volunteering either as an adviser or speaker is asked to download a survey at http://www.sao.purdue.edu/Community?action=downloadDocument&docID=10  and return the completed form to the Student Activities and Organizations area of the Office of the Dean of Students by Sept. 1. Volunteers can specify the type of organization they would like to advise or topics on which they are able to speak.
