Wheat Field Day to highlight resistance findings

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Farmers and seed growers can attend the June 16 Wheat Field Day presented by Purdue University's Department of Agronomy and Ag Alumni Seed.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be from 1-4 p.m. at the Purdue Agronomy Center for Research and Education's (ACRE) Beck Agricultural Center, located near West Lafayette.

The field day will cover new disease resistance, an advanced wheat line, and genetic research for rust and leaf and glume blotch, said Herb Ohm, Purdue University Extension wheat breeder.

Participants will be able to take a tour of outside plots and the performance nursery. The tour will show different types of diseases, including yellow dwarf disease and wheat scab, and how the resistance works against the diseases. Wheat researchers and Purdue agriculture students will speak at the field day.

ACRE is located at 4540 U.S. 52 West.
