Appointments, honors and activities

— Ernest Agee has been named interim head of the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, effective July 1. He formerly served as associate head and will serve as interim head until a new department head is found. Agee's research focuses on the fluid dynamics of thermal convection, atmospheric manifestations of Bernard-Rayleigh convection and climatic change.

• Student honors

— Three graduate students from Purdue University's Center on Aging and the Life Course have been named trainees for a new National Institute on Aging program to encourage research on aging. The three students selected for the Interdisciplinary Research on Aging and the Life Course program are Megan Gilligan from the Department of Sociology; Nicholas Turiano from the Department of Child Development and Family Studies; and Eileen Weinheimer from the Department of Foods and Nutrition. The program targets students entering the third year of their graduate program, and each trainee will work with an interdisciplinary team of scholars.
