Purdue to host Conference for Collaboration and Innovation

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's Department of Organizational Leadership and Supervision is holding a conference to help those in the workplace work more effectively and creatively in teams, whether team members are working together in person or in the virtual world.

The Conference for Collaboration and Innovation will be Sept. 15-17 in Stewart Center and will feature presentations on subjects including teams and collaboration, leadership and ethics, and creativity and innovation.

The conference will feature two keynote speakers. Orlando Ashford is senior vice president of human resources at Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc., and was formerly vice president of human resources at Coca Cola. Gina O'Connor is director for the Radical Innovation Research Project and associate director of the Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She is author of "Grabbing Lightning: Building a Capability for Breakthrough Innovation."

Several authors will be featuring during the conference, including:

* Sue Freedman, president of Knowledge Work Global and co-director of Managing Projects across Borders. She authored "Beyond Teams: Building the Collaborative Organization."

* Verna Allee, president of Value Networks and author of "The Future of Knowledge: Increasing Prosperity Through Value Network" and "The Knowledge Evolution: Expanding Organizational Intelligence."

* Stan Gryskiewicz, senior fellow at the Center for Creative Leadership. He wrote "Making Creativity Practical: Innovation that Gets Results" and "Positive Turbulence: Developing Climates for Creativity, Innovation & Renewal."

* Rick Lepsinger, president of OnPoint Consulting and author of "Flexible Leadership: Creating Value by Balancing Multiple Challenges and Choices," "The Art and Science of 360-degree Feedback" and "The Art and Science of Competency Models."

* Jill Nemiro, associate professor at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and author of "Creativity in Virtual Teams: Key Components for Success" and editor of "The Handbook of High-Performance Virtual Teams."

* Irene Petrick, director of the Enterprise Informatics & Integration Center at Pennsylvania State University and author of "Manufacturing a Better Future for America."

Industry sessions will include Kevin O'Brien of the Boeing Co., Jack Jennings of Sprint and Tim Lovich of Ethicon Endo-Surgery Inc.
