September 23, 2009 Purdue University technologies presented at Fort Wayne showcaseWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Technologies discovered at Purdue University were presented to companies, entrepreneurs and investors on Wednesday (Sept. 23) at the fourth annual Northeast Indiana Technology Showcase in Fort Wayne, Ind."The Northeast Indiana Technology Showcase is a key annual event to present the newest technologies to potential investors," said Karen White, acting director of the Purdue Research Foundation's Office of Technology Commercialization. "Laboratory and classroom discoveries must be developed before they are delivered to the market. Angel investors, owners of established businesses and other entrepreneurs are keys to that development. The showcase is a forum where they can learn about products for tomorrow's markets." Technologies discovered at Purdue and presented at the showcase included: * A method to lower distortion in wireless systems, which will be a less expensive and simpler method than the conventional silver-plated connectors currently used. * A technology that immobilizes the enzyme glucose oxidase. The technology may one day be used to sense glucose in blood and monitor glucose levels in saliva, which will help detect early warning signs of disease. * A method that locates damage in layered composite materials used in military aircraft, which can help increase flying time. Three technologies discovered at Indiana University also were presented during the showcase, which began at 10:30 a.m. and concluded at 1:30 p.m. "Other technologies in the areas of software, medical devices, electronics and defense were available for commercialization, in addition to the ones being presented," said Sean Ryan, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne's director of university engagement. The fourth annual event was sponsored by IPFW's Office of University Engagement, the Northeast Indiana Corporate Council and the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center. It took place at the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center, 3201 Stellhorn Road in Fort Wayne.
