October 20, 2009 Outstanding Latino Awards presented to Purdue student, alumnus and staffWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Latino Faculty and Staff Association at Purdue University last week presented its Outstanding Latino Awards to four members of Purdue's Latino community.The Outstanding Latino Student Award was given to Alejandra Roman, who will graduate in December and has worked at the Latino Cultural Center for four and a half years. The Outstanding Latino Staff Award was presented to Joel Zarate, Purdue refuse recycling coordinator. The Outstanding Latino Faculty Award was given to Rodrigo Bañuelos, head of the Department of Mathematics. The Outstanding Latino Community Ally Award was presented to Ivan Hernandez, a Purdue alumnus and director of admissions at Ivy Tech Community College-Lafayette. The Outstanding Latino Awards were developed in 2005 to recognize important contributions made by Purdue students, alumni, faculty and staff to empower and build Latino scholarship efforts and community at Purdue. The Latino Faculty and Staff Association is an educational organization.
