Purdue experts lead businesses through change with new conference
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Even though the economy is moving slowly, Purdue University experts say that sluggish pace won't slow change in the business world.
Purdue Organizational Leadership and Supervision (OLS) professors will help representatives from businesses learn to communicate, lead and organize change in a five-day workshop at Purdue. Leadership for a Changing World will be on campus from 9 a.m. to noon on March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. The course fee is $490.
"The Purdue faculty presenters were successful private sector leaders, and now they develop and deliver instruction based on the latest leadership research," said Carolyn Roper, continuing lecturer in organizational leadership and supervision in the School of Technology. "They know the leadership field of study and can translate it well for those in today's workplace."
From the 40 areas that OLS experts consult on in private industry, the five most popular were selected for the conference leading effectively, problem solving, influencing change, building partnerships and planning for the future.
Information sessions will cover leadership traits, codes of ethics, verbal skills to negotiate agreements, creative approaches to change and keys to effective goal setting. Experts also will talk about maintaining ethical practices in problem solving and how an individual's power can influence the change cycle. This is the first public offering for these sessions. OLS consultants generally hold private seminars for individual companies and corporations.
"Because this information has previously been available only in private consulting settings, smaller businesses will find this a rare opportunity to have access to these topics without the great expense of hosting their own conference," Roper said.
