Purdue Women in Engineering Preview Day set for Oct. 20
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. High school seniors considering a career in engineering are invited to Engineering Preview Day for Women at Purdue University from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, in Stewart Center.
There is no cost for the daylong program, which is being sponsored by Boeing Co., Caterpillar Inc., Fluor Corp., General Motors Corp. and Raytheon Co., with support from the Purdue Society of Women Engineers. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 10.
Preview Day will feature lectures and demonstrations related to various engineering fields. Purdue chemical engineering alumna Amy Jines, from Eli Lilly and Co., will present a keynote address.
Participants also can pose questions during two panel discussions. One panel will be composed of practicing women engineers, and the other will consist of women engineering students.
"This presents an ideal opportunity for questions on the challenges faced by engineering majors and women in the work force," said Beth Holloway, director of the Purdue Women in Engineering Program.
Parents are invited to participate in the program with their student and may attend some of the sessions, including a special program on financial aid. There also will be a question-and-answer session with the director of the Women in Engineering Program and representatives from Freshmen Engineering.
An event for high school juniors will be in the spring.
