Purdue staff members earn Mortar Board Rose Awards

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Ten clerical and service staff members from Purdue University's West Lafayette campus recently received Rose Awards from Purdue's Barbara Cook Chapter of Mortar Board.

The award honors clerical and service staff members who go "above and beyond" the call of duty and have positively changed the workplace atmosphere.

Mortar Board representatives honored the award recipients at an April 13 luncheon, during which each honoree was presented with a dozen roses and a certificate. Each Rose Award winner was nominated by faculty and staff in his or her department.

The Rose Award honorees include:

• Christopher Coverdale, service maintenance worker, Hilltop Apartments.

• Carolyn Dexter, secretary, Purdue Libraries.

• Angela Ewing, library assistant, Purdue Libraries.

• Patricia Fletcher, secretary, Krannert School of Management.

• Twyla Gibson, clerk, Department of Aviation Technology.

• Cindy Goodin, service worker, Wiley Residence Hall.

• Taina Kuntz, account clerk, Purdue Libraries.

• Sue Oaks, service worker, Owen Residence Hall.

• Muoi Phung, food services worker, Cary Quadrangle.

• Cheryl Smith, library assistant, Purdue Libraries.

Mortar Board is a national senior honor society that recognizes college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. The Purdue chapter of Mortar Board was chartered in 1926. The chapter is named in honor of retired Dean of Students Barbara Cook, who advised the group from 1956-1986.
