Internationally known classical trio to perform at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The internationally known Trio con Brio Copenhagen will perform at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall at Purdue University.

Trio con Brio Copenhagen is made up of Korean sisters Soo-Jin Hong on the violin and Soo-Kyung Hong on the cello and Danish pianist Jens Elvekjaer. Purdue Convocations is presenting the performance.

The trio's performance will include "Trio in C major, Hob. XV:27" by Joseph Haydn, "Piano Trio" by Maurice Ravel and "Piano Trio Op. 90 'Dumky'" by Antonin Dvorák.

Trio con Brio Copenhagen is the latest recipient of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award, which includes performances on 20 major American concert series, including Carnegie Hall, and a recording contract.

The group, which formed in 1999, also has won top prizes in many of Europe's prestigious classical music competitions, including first prize in the Premio Vittorio Gui in Florence, Italy; Norway's Trondheim Chamber Music Competition and the Danish Radio Competition in Copenhagen, Norway. They also were given second prize, the highest awarded, at ARD's International Music Competition in Munich, which is Germany's largest competition for classical music.

The trio has plans this year to perform with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra in Radio Concert Hall Copenhagen in Denmark, with the Korean Prime Philharmonic Orchestra in the Seoul Arts Center, the Gunpo Culture Center in Korea and the South Jutlands Symphony Orchestra in Sonderborg, Denmark, and Flensburg, Germany.
